About Us
Forget Me Not Fabrics is a dream come true for our owner, Dawn Smith. She has been a fabric/yarn crafter forever. Girl Scouts, Junior High Home Economics class, and knitting with friends have always been a part of her life.
A 32-year veteran teacher in the Westerly Public Schools, Dawn retired in 2022 as a music educator and an EMT/EMS instructor in the tech program. Once she retired, the wheels started turning...and Forget Me Not Fabrics was born. Especially with some of the big box crafting stores closing, it seemed like the right time to dive into the retail business.
Dawn says, "Going to the store is not work. It’s fun!"
Dawn's grandmother, Bea Smith, owned and operated Bea Smith's Dress Shop from the 1950's until her retirement. Her brother, Raymond, continued the family business, and today he travels to assisted living facilities to set up "pop-up shops" to bring the shopping to the older folks in the New England area. A volunteer EMT and President of the Board of Governors, Dawn is actively involved as a
Life Member of the Westerly Ambulance Corps, Inc. She is an EMT Instructor/Coordinator,
and CPR instructor for the American Heart Association.
